Dott.ssa Federica Fascì Spurio

About me

I’m a Gastroenterologist with experience in Internal Medicine and a strong focus on Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Health.

I earned my medical degree in 2005 at La Sapienza University of Rome, where I also completed my specialist training in Gastroenterology in 2009.

From my early years in medical school, I took every opportunity to travel abroad as a visiting student. This brought me in touch with different cultures, allowing me to learn English, open my mind, and gain knowledge in medicine.

I dedicated the initial years of my medical career to inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), namely Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In 2014, I completed a PhD on this topic after gaining experience at prestigious IBD centers, such as San Filippo Neri Hospital in Rome, the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, and King’s College Hospital in London.

At the end of 2013, I moved from Rome to the Venice area, where I started working full-time as a hospital physician, initially in Internal Medicine, taking care of acute inpatients, and later in Gastroenterology, treating both inpatients and outpatients with a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases.

During my years as a doctor, I developed a deep interest in nutritional sciences and metabolic health. This has profoundly influenced my way of thinking and my approach to patient care: rather than putting band-aids on symptoms, I now try to identify the underlying causes of disease to fix and reverse them. I always try to look at my patients holistically, considering every aspect of their health, diet, and lifestyle, without limiting my attention to their gastrointestinal issues.

I see plenty of people suffering from diseases that would be completely preventable through healthy habits. My goal today is to empower my patients to make good choices every single day. Ultimately, the best medicine I can offer my patients is to reduce their need for medications and medical care in a long-lasting way.
